Bet365 Gold Cup Tip: Meanus Dandy

bet365 gold cup

It is not often a Walsh/Nicholls combination goes off at double digit odds. This horse’s form is much better than it looks.

Every so often in the season there is a key race. A race that for some quirk of fate happens to be much stronger than expected and the form holds up. The 3.15 at Doncaster on 5th March 2011 was one such key race and it holds the answer to the Bet365 Gold Cup puzzle.

The Grimthorpe Handicap Chase on the 5th March is usually a competitive affair but this year it was freakishly strong. Meanus Dandy finished seventh of eleven but look what the rest have gone on to achieve. The field included a future Scottish Grand National 2nd, 3rd & 4th, and a Midlands Grand National Winner. The race was very strong and the only horse who has yet to appear since is Meanus Dandy. The handicapper actually dropped the horse 2lbs after that Doncaster run and he looks well treated for his return at Sandown.

If you delve further into his form, you see that he is a talented performer. In November he beat Buena Vista, a subsequent Festival winner and in October he finished only 18 lengths behind The Midnight Chase, the Cheltenham Gold Cup fifth placed horse.

Everywhere you look the form of Meanus Dandy is rock solid and a valuable handicap is waiting to be won.
