Ascot Tips: Al Ferof
Impressive winner of last season’s Paddy Power Gold Cup and Paul Nicholls is likely to have him fully tuned up.
Al Ferof produced one of the best weight carrying performances in recent memory when taking last year’s Paddy Power Gold Cup. He was awarded a Racing Post Rating of 172 for his win and made second favourite for the King George.
Unfortunately, we never saw him again after a tendon injury ended his season, but the impression he made at Cheltenham has not been dimmed.
The big question is whether he can continue where he left off after a 371-day absence. Normally this would be a concern but not when Paul Nicholls is on your side.
The Ditcheat trainer proved with Kauto Star that he is a master at getting a horse fit after a long absence and I expect Al Ferof is raring to go. At 10/11 (Bet365) he cannot go unbacked.
