Aintree Tips: Arctic Fire

Aintree Tips: Arctic Fire

Never gets the credit he deserves and his second place in the Champion Hurdle actually merits a slight upgrade.

Arctic Fire ran an absolutely blinder for us when runner-up in the Champion Hurdle yet his performance isn’t given the credit it deserves.

People might crab the form because he returned at 20/1 but the market got him completely wrong.

As discussed previously, his performances at Leopardstown deserve upgrading because twice he let the leaders get first run on him and it was a similar story at Cheltenham.

Ruby Walsh was allowed to dictate the race on Faugheen and the 99.2% finishing speed (Timeform) is indicative of an even/moderate gallop.

Yet again Arctic Fire was tapped for toe as Faugheen quickened the pace turning for home, but he was gaining on the leader at the line.

Arctic Fire lacks the immediate change of pace associated with the very top 2-mile hurdlers therefore a step-up in trip should work in his favour.

He will be up against slightly slower horses and should have more time to bridge any gap that appears. At 15/8 (Bet365) compensation awaits.
