WGC Doral Golf Tip: Thomas Aiken

Ranked 10th in the Race To Dubai, he is a rising star of the European Tour. The bookmakers just don't know it yet.

Our second golf tip for the WGC is the South African Thomas Aiken. As discussed you need to make birdies to be competitive at Doral and Aiken ranks 10th on the European Tour for stroke average. That puts him above Paul Casey and Martin Kaymer and only a couple of places below Rory McIlroy and Alvaro Quiros.

Those big European Tour names are at the front of the betting, no bigger than 33/1, yet the less fashionable Aiken is available at 150/1. With four top tens already to his name this season, he is a player going places. Often early season form can be downgraded because of the weak fields but our man performed in the big tournaments, including a seventh place in Dubai.

Aiken also has form at Doral. In 2009 he tied for seventh, closing with a 65. He would have done even better if it wasn’t for a poor first round 74. The course clearly suits him.

Aged only 27, he has his best years ahead of him; we might have even found the next Louis Oosthuizen.
