USPGA Championship Golf Tips: Carl Pettersson

Won on a Peter Dye designed course this year at Harbour Town and will enjoy Kiawah Island’s stern test.

British bookmakers tend to be biased towards European players, understandable, because they are the ones bet on. However, there is one European who consistently offers value – Carl Pettersson.

The 34-year-old Swede is based in the US and plays almost exclusively on the PGA Tour, which is perhaps why he isn’t as well known. Ranked 38th in the world and a 5-time winner on tour, there is a strong argument for his inclusion in Europe’s Ryder Cup team later this year.

Victory in a major would guarantee his place and there is a chance it could happen this week. In recent years Pettersson has taken a shine to Peter Dye designed courses, like Kiawah Island.

He won the Heritage at Harbour Town earlier this season and his record on Dye designed course since 2010 reads T24-T35-T33-T30-1-T10.

A long hitter and a superb putter, Pettersson should enjoy the stern test and at 125/1 (William Hill) he is a good each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
