US Masters Profiles: Louis Oosthuizen

The 2010 British Open champion who only missed out on a Green Jacket after a sudden-death play-off last spring.

Age: 30

World Ranking: 6

Major wins: 1

Augusta Record: Missed three consecutive cuts on his first three appearances in the deep south major but all that can be forgotten after 2012. The South African stormed into a final round lead courtesy of an albatross, only the fourth in Masters history, and he was only defeated by Bubba Watson after two extra holes of drama.

Form: Won the Volvo Golf Champions event on the European Tour in January but there’s been nothing to write home about since then. A T10 in Houston after a third round 65 ensures that the world number six arrives in reasonable spirits.

Verdict: Is mentally ahead of so many of his rivals simply because he has been there and done it when it matters most. He didn’t ‘bottle’ the Masters last year, but showed his character anyway by winning the very next week at the Malaysian Open.
