US Masters Profiles: Bubba Watson
The defending champion has been getting emotional reliving his big moment this week.
Age: 34
World Ranking: 14
Majors: 1
Augusta Record: Living proof that you don’t have to go close before you actually get the job done at Augusta. Before last year, Bubba had achieved finishes of T20-42-T38; solid enough but certainly no indication of what was to come. His infamous ‘wedge-hook’ on the second hole of the sudden-death playoff ultimately secured victory.
Form: There have been a few top-25 finishes already in 2013 but nothing to suggest that the Florida-born star is about to add to his Green Jacket collection. He will want to improve on his current 42nd in the FedEx standings.
Verdict: Proved a lot of people wrong by holding his nerve 12 months ago. He essentially avenged defeat in another major play-off, to Martin Kaymer at the 2010 US PGA Championship. Would be remarkable if he defended his title, but it’s interesting to note that left-handed players have now won five of the past 10 Masters.
