Three top 20 finishes in five years; this bomber is starting to use his radar.
There aren’t any bigger hitters on tour right now. JB Holmes is a grip it and rip it golfer and at first glance he shouldn’t be suited to Sawgrass. His results contradict the myth that you need to be a straight hitter to compete at the Players Championship. In five appearances his record is: T13-MC-T10-T16-T38 and he was first round leader last year.
There is more to his game than just blasting the golf ball. In nine tournaments this year he has three top tens and six top 25 finishes. Played on a variety of courses it shows he is not a one trick pony.
A third round 65 a Quail Hollow last week is proof that his game is in rude health. A player who will relish the raucous atmosphere, he looks overpriced at 70/1.
