South Georgia Classic Trends

Last week’s trends analysis highlighted Andrew Putnam at 33/1. Can they lead us to the winner of the South Georgia Classic?

Kinderlou Forest Golf Club hosts the South Georgia Classic for an eighth year and the first thing that stands out is its length.

The course measures 7,781 yards, making it the longest on tour and although this is mitigated by several downhill holes, driving distance is a factor.

Top-60 on tour for driving distance
2012 champion Luke List ranked first for driving distance on tour, whilst last year’s winner Will Wilcox ranked sixth. Driving distance is a common thread linking past champions.

Top-60 on tour for birdie average
The last five winners all finished at 15-under or better, therefore going low is imperative.

Top-60 on tour for par 5 birdie or better
Birdieing the par-5s is imperative. Luke List was 13-under through the par-5s in 2012, whilst 2011 champion Ted Potter Jr was 18-under.

Top-60 on tour for birdie conversion
Four of the last five winners ranked inside the top-60 on tour for this metric, proving you have to take your opportunities.

Top-60 on tour for putting average
The South Georiga Classic isn’t a putting competition but competency with the flat stick is a minimum requirement. Four of the last five winners ranked inside the top-60 for putting average.
