Singapore Open Tips: Jbe Kruger

Win some Krugerrands

Underrated because he plays on the Asian Tour. A mistake because he lies 6th in the Order of Merit and finished T23 last week in a much stronger field.

Lying sixth on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, it is criminal that the bookmakers have priced Jbe Kruger at 125/1 (Paddy Power) for the Singapore Open. The European betting firms have shown their usual bias towards the recognised ‘names’ at the expense of less heralded talent.

In only his third year on tour, the 25-year-old South African already has three runners-up spots to his name and it is only a matter of time before he makes the breakthrough. The 2011 season has been another one of consistently good play. He has six top-tens from 15 events, with only three missed cuts all year.

The statistics back up his good results; he is 9th on the Asian Tour for GIRs and 12th for scoring average. Strength in the areas needed to succeed in Singapore.

Last week he finished T23 in the WGC-HSBC Champions event, proof that he can mix it with the best golfers in the world. The Singapore Open field is considerably weaker, with only four of last week’s top-15 competing.

Back Kruger each way at 125/1 (Paddy Power) and get 1/5 odds for a top six finish.
