Servientrega Championship Tips: Trey Mullinax

The five par-5s at TPC Cartagena will suit a player who ranked fourth for par-5 scoring last season. Finished T4 at the Colombia Championship.

Last week I was concerned the Brasil Champions would develop into a putting competition and that proved correct with Andrew Svoboda winning on 23-under.

These sort of shootouts don’t always reward the best players and unfortunately Trey Mullinax was unable to separate himself from the pack.

An opening round of 70 left him behind the eight-ball and although he rallied and got to 15-under at one stage on Sunday (near the top-10), he pressed too hard and made mistakes on the back-9.

TPC Cartagena promises to deliver a much sterner test and that will help Mullinax shine. He is currently first on tour in the all-around ranking and although the season is still in it’s infancy, he is 25th in scoring average based on a total of 14 rounds.

These are the qualities we saw in the 23-year-old last season and his power should be an advantage this week. Big hitters like Luke List, Kevin Tway and Curtis Thompson featured high on the leaderboard last year and the five par-5s will favour a player who ranked fourth on tour for par-5 scoring last season.

Mullinax finished T4 at the Colombia Championship back in February and at 50/1 (Paddy Power) he is a cracking bet on his return to Colombia.
