Brasil Champions Tips: Trey Mullinax

Dropped nine shots in two holes at the Louisiana Open but for those disasters he’d have been in the mix.

At the Louisiana Open I resolved to keep backing Trey Mullinax until he won a tournament and inevitably ended up with egg on my face. However, true to my word I’m going in again.

The shame for Mullinax was that bar for two disasters he could have won. In the first round he took an 8 on a par-4 and a 10 on a par-5; that is nine shots gone in two holes. If he’d parred both he’d have finished Friday on 10-under, the winner on Sunday only got to 14-under.

There is a danger the Brasil Champions event descends into a shoot-out and the course isn’t demanding enough for Mullinax to distance himself from the field. However he is currently ranked 31st on tour for par-breaker and was 12th for the same metric last season.

A T4 at the Colombia Championship proves he can handle South American conditions and he will be keen to rectify the blip in round one at Louisiana.
