Portland Open Tips: Taylor Pendrith

Massive hitter who can capitalise on the four par-5s. Lost in a playoff last week on the PGA Tour Canada.

This last couple of tournaments on the Web.com has favoured steady, accurate players but the Winco Portland Open could be one for the bombers.

Pumpkin Ridge hosts the event for only the second year, so there isn’t much evidence to go on but last year’s top-5 included four terrific drivers of the ball.

A par-71 with four par-5s you need to be scoring well on the long holes. The first name I looked up was Trey Mullinax but he isn’t on the start list.

I can find no reason for his absence, perhaps he is just saving himself for the Tour Finals. Thankfully, we have a ready-made replacement, his statistical twin – Taylor Pendrith.

The 24-year-old has already made it into this column once before at the Air Capital Classic and he has improved since then.

Pendrith has been plying his trade on the PGA Tour Canada where he has three top-10s in five starts including a playoff defeat last week.

The young Canadian is prodigiously long (averages 328.8 yards in driving distance) and should gobble up the par-5s. He already has a couple of top-20s on the Web.com and is a cracking each-way bet at 80/1 (BetVictor).
