Open Championship Tips: Dustin Johnson

Runner-up last year, he has the ability to win a major. Has good form on some testing courses.

After letting the 2011 Open Championship slip through his grasp, you can bet that Dustin Johnson will be desperate to make amends at Royal Lytham & St. Annes.

Now over the injuries that blighted the start of his year, the world number 15 is primed to deliver on his vast potential. A six-time winner on the PGA Tour, he certainly knows where the finishing line is, but for some reason he has just faltered when on the brink of victory in a major.

That can be cured by experience, and the 28-year-old has plenty of that now. He has finished in the top-25 in six of his 14 major appearances, with T14-T2 finishes in his last two Open Championships.

Ranked 7th for driving distance on the PGA Tour, he isn’t just a flat track bully. He ranks 12th for adjusted scoring average and his one victory this year came at the testing St. Jude Classic. Played at TPC Southwind, it is the ninth hardest course on the PGA Tour and demands accuracy.

At 50/1 (Paddy Power) he seems rather forgotten in the betting, but with Paddy Power paying ¼ odds for a top-7 finish, he is cracking each-way value.
