Open Championship Golf Tips: Lee Westwood

His record in majors is so consistent you’d have made money backing him each-way for the last three years.

Lee Westwood is looking for that elusive major victory but even if one never comes his way, his record makes him a good value each-way bet.

With 39 professional victories and ranked 3rd in the world, there isn’t much more to learn about the man from Worksop. However it is worth reiterating just how good his record is in major championships.

Since the start of 2009, he has finished in the top-ten in 8 of his last 13 major appearances. From a betting perspective, the each-way part of our bets would have been paid out six times in that run.

If you had bet £1 each-way on Westwood in every major since the start of 2009, assuming his odds were 16/1, you’d be £4 up, a return on investment of 15%.

More profitable than a bank, there is no reason to desert the Englishman. At 16/1 (Paddy Power) he is a good value each-way bet, especially with Paddy Power paying 7 places.
