Open Championship Golf Tips: Bo Van Pelt

Red-hot on the PGA Tour with five top-25s in his last six tournaments. Past Open experience also invaluable.

Regular readers might be getting sick of seeing this tip, but I’m hoping Bo Van Pelt can finally make the breakthrough at Royal Lytham.

Ranked 18th in the FedEx Cup standings and 25th in the world, Bo Van Pelt is one of the most consistent players on the planet. So far this season he has racked up ten top-25 finishes from 16 events and only missed two cuts.

The really good news is that he arrives in the UK in sparkling form.  He has finished inside the top-25 in five of his last six tournaments, with his only blemish coming at the US Open. That was forgivable on such a brutal course, and despite his struggles, he still fired a brilliant second round 70 to make the cut.

Unlike many of his counterparts who only show their best form Stateside, Van Pelt has steadily built up a bank of experience in foreign conditions. He has made the cut at the British Open four of the five times he has played and although he has nothing better than a T30 to show, he’s never arrived in better form.

The 37-year-old from Richmond, Indiana has three top-25 finishes in the last six majors, experience that will be vital if he is in contention come Sunday afternoon.

At 100/1 (Ladbrokes), Bo Van Pelt’s form is comparable with Americans who are half his price. He makes a cracking each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
