Open Champion Tips: Nicolas Colsaerts

Starting to feature regularly on leaderboards at major championships. Finished T7 at Lytham last year.

Much of the build up to the Open Championship will focus on the British challenge for the title. Justin Rose’s triumph at the US Open has ramped up expectations even further and that is reflected in the betting.

Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Luke Donald all figure prominently in the betting but their skinny odds are not justified if you consider their patchy form.

Having said that I do believe a winner could emerge from last year’s triumphant Ryder Cup team in the shape of Nicolas Colsaerts.

The 30-year-old is revered for his power but there is much more to his game than simply ripping it off the tee.

Colsaerts has finished in the top-30 in three of the last five major championship with a career best T7 at Lytham last year.

The Belgian has started to find some form in the last month with top-10 finishes at the US and Scottish Opens and at 66/1 (Paddy Power) he looks a solid each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-7 finish.
