McIlroy On Top Of The World

Rory McIlroy has become golf’s new world number one after victory in the Honda Classic. He is 150/1 (Paddy Power) to win all four majors in 2012.

It had seemed only a matter of time before Rory McIlroy became the world number one and he wasted precious little of it. Victory at the Honda Classic moved the 22-year-old to the summit of the rankings for the first time in his career, a position he vowed to keep for as long as possible.

The Honda Classic was a continuation of his remarkable run that has seen him finish outside the top-five only once since last August. The bookmakers go 2/1 (Totesport) that McIlroy wins a major in 2012, with the Grand Slam 150/1 with Paddy Power.

The US Masters is only a month away and McIlroy is 11/2 (Betfred) to make up for last year’s heartache where he blew a four shot lead in the final round. The new world number one will have his work cut out to stop a resurgent Tiger Woods. He shot a final round 62 to finish second at the Honda Classic - a career best score on a Sunday. Tiger Woods is 6/1 (Stan James) to win a fifth green jacket at Augusta next month.
