John Deere Classic Tips: Zach Johnson

John Deere Classic Tips: Zach Johnson

Hasn’t finished outside the top-3 in the last five renewals and this is very much ‘his’ event.

You know what you are getting at the John Deere Classic and that is birdies. Since the event moved to TPC Deere Run in 2000 no one has won with a score worse than 16-under.

It is also an event that has produced ‘horses for courses’. Steve Stricker won three in a row between 2009-2011 whilst Zach Johnson hardly ever finishes outside of the top-3.

The John Deere Classic is especially important to Zach Johnson, he is on the board of directors and his family have close ties to the event. After winning in 2012 he said,

``This tournament has meant so much to me and my family, from when they gave me exemptions to being a part of its board. I don’t really like making things a bigger deal than what they should be. It means a great deal now that I’ve done it.’‘

His record at this event over the past seven seasons reads 2-21-3-1-2-2-3 and he returns in good form.

He has three top-15 finishes in his last five starts, two of them coming in majors and the other a WGC-event. He might not be much of a price but is highly motivated and his course record makes him a safe each-way bet at 15/2 (Stan James) with ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
