Golf Outsider: Sicilian Open

Our longshots expert runs the rule over some big outsiders for the Sicilian Open.

The Sicilian Open has moved to a more links style layout after just one year on the European Tour. It therefore pays to look for players who are good in the wind and play these style of courses well.

Sicilian Open Selections
Alastair Forsyth is the first of a duo of Scotsmen I like this week. Having grown up playing in the wind he should be able to handle conditions well. The fact that his last win came on a coastland island course at the Madeira Open cannot be overlooked. He looks ready to strike, having made seven cuts in a row, including a good 5th place at the Africa Open.
Recommended Bet: Alastair Forsyth at 160.0 (Betfair)

Gary Orr is the second of our Scots. We have to go back a long way to find this veteran’s last win, but he has been hanging around the top of leaderboards of late. His long game stats are going through the roof compared to previous years, which suggests that all he needs is a few extra putts to drop and he will be in contention.
Recommended Bet: Gary Orr at 200.0 (Betfair)

Alejandro Canizares is an interesting pick at 80.0 for someone who hasn’t won since 2006, but his game seems to be improving in some key areas. GIR percentages are on the up and his putts per round are going down. Just last week he holed out well for an opening 67 in Morocco. Perhaps a warning that everything might click into place this week.
Recommended Bet: Alejandro Canizares at 80.0 (Betfair)
