Golf Outsider: Open de Espana

Our longshots expert has three selections at big prices for the Open de Espana.

Open de Espana Selections:

Stephen Gallacher seems a huge price for a player with two second place finishes in his last five starts. The problem is he has thrown in two missed cuts as well. Look at his results over the last 12 months and he struggles to string two decent results together. Last season he went T3-T124-T6 in consecutive tournaments to illustrate the point. This could be a ‘going’ week as he has good form in southern Spain, with a T12 at the Andalucia Masters back in October.
Recommended Bet: Stephen Gallacher at 90.0 (Betfair)

Furious after missing Bernd Wiesberger’s win, having tipped him almost every week, I’m not going to make the same mistake with another of my favourite outsiders - Alejandro Canizares. Recent form has been poor since his T10 at the Avantha Masters, but back on home soil he should be a different player. Finishes of T7 in Andalucía, T18 in Madrid, T2 in the 2010 Iberdrola and T3 at the 2010 Open de Espana sums it up. Back him where he feels most at home!
Recommended Bet: Alejandro Canizares at 140.0 (Betfair)

It is too early in his career to guess how good Tom Lewis might become, but for the first time since his win, his price has drifted into ‘outsider’ territory. This week’s venue is less than 100 miles down the Iberian coast from the scene of that victory. With similar conditions, if he is going to win another tournament this year this could be the one.
Recommended Bet: Tom Lewis at 160.0 (Betfair)
