Golf Outsider: Malaysian Open

The European and Asian Tours combine for the Malaysian Open. Our long-shots expert highlights three players, including a golfer who finished fifth last week, available at 439/1.

The market is dominated by Luke Donald and Charl Schwartzel but don’t discount golfers who ply their trade in Asia because they are often overlooked by the British bookmakers. The Kuala Lumpur GCC hosts the tournament for a third year in a row.

Seuk-hun Baek is a young South Korean golfer we might be hearing a lot of in the future. Only 22-years-old, he is enjoying a fine season on the Asian Tour with three top-20 finishes, including a fifth place at last week’s Avantha Masters. He finished 17th in the 2011 Malaysian Open and has progressed since then.
Recommended Bet: Seuk-hun Baek at 440.0 (Betfair)

Staying with the Asian Tour, the bookmakers keep underrating Scott Hend. The Australian sits fifth in the Order of Merit, boosted by his T6 at the Avantha Masters. He finished last year’s Malaysian Open in T11, shooting a closing round of 66.
Recommended Bet: Scott Hend at 290.0 (Betfair)

Going back to the the new breed, I think Tommy Fleetwood is a player to keep onside. The 22-year-old from Southport is starting to show consistency in his golf, having made the cut in 14 of his last 16 tournaments. He’s finished in the top-15 in three of his last four starts and has the ability to win a big one.
Recommended Bet: Tommy Fleetwood at 130.0 (Betfair)
