Golf Outsider: China Open

Our longshots expert takes a sideways look at the China Open, highlighting some big priced golfers.

Branden Grace is prominent in the betting to defend his China Open title but the tournament has a wide-open feel to it. At much bigger odds, here are three players to look out for:

China Open Selections

Michael Hendry is a massive price considering he won the NZ PGA Championship and leads the Tour of Australasia’s Order of Merit. The 33-year-old might not be a familiar name on these shores, but he knows how to win.
Recommended Bet: Michael Hendry at 330.0 (Betfair)

The Volvo China Open returns to the Binhai Lake Golf Club and Robert-Jan Derksen looks overpriced after his T18 finish last year. The Dutch golfer might be without a tour win since 2005 but his game is in good shape. So far in 2013, he has only missed one cut and his consistency might be rewarded this weekend.
Recommended Bet: Robert-Jan Derksen at 290.0 (Betfair)

Gary Lockerbie has been on the fringes of the European Tour for several years but he’s made a big jump in performance this season. In nine events his stroke average is 71.18, the lowest it’s been on tour. He’s made the cut in five of his last six tournaments and could be on the verge of a big breakthrough.
Recommended Bet: Gary Lockerbie at 470.0 (Betfair)
