Golf Outsider: Ballantines Championship

Our longshots expert fancies some big outsiders for the Ballantines Championship.

For only the second year running, the Ballantines Championship is held at Blackstone GC in Seoul, South Korea. This makes it tough to pick out a winner on course form, but also increases the chances of landing a big priced winner.

Ballantines Championship Selections

Thaworn Wiratchant chased down Lee Westwood on Sunday to finish two shots adrift of the World No.3. This was no flash in the pan, as he sits 6th on the Asian Order of Merit, with another four top-15 finishes. Crucially his form is trending in the right direction. If he repeats last week’s performance it will be good enough for a win in this field. He looks almost unbelievable value at 190.0 whilst the best bookie price is 70/1.
Recommended Bet: Thaworn Wiratchant at 190.0 (Betfair)

Scott Hend saves his best golf for the Asian Tour, which immediately makes him of interest in a co-sanctioned event such as this. He is playing some great stuff right now, posting a T11 in Malaysia after a win at the Singapore Classic. He made the cut on this course last year and with new-found confidence, he could go well at gigantic odds.
Recommended Bet: Scott Hend at 300.0 (Betfair)

Finally I’m going for a more familiar European Tour name - Chris Wood. He looks overpriced for a recent runner-up mainly because of his MC last week. I am happy to put that down to jet lag; ignoring a missed cut often shows up the value.
Recommended Bet:  Chris Wood at 80.0 (Betfair)
