The Golf Outsider: European Masters

Omega European Masters

We highlight some long shots to look out for at the Omega European Masters starting on Thursday.

Crans-Sur-Sierre has hosted the European Masters since 1923 and you can see why the venue hasn’t changed. It must have some of the most remarkable backdrops of any course. Looking at the betting, there are a lot of good value opportunities in the mid-priced player bracket.

Omega European Masters Selections:

After several years in the golfing wilderness David Howell is starting to regain the form that saw him beat Tiger Woods in the HSBC Champions Tournament. There is still some way to go until he reaches that exalted level, but currently 70th in the Race to Dubai, he is enjoying his best season since 2008. He has twice finished in the top-10 at the European Masters, with a 7th place as recently as 2009.
Recommend Bet: David Howell at 260.0

The Omega European Masters is co-sanctioned with the Asian Tour, which explains some of the unfamiliar names in the line-up. Don’t be put off by these relative unknowns, as the Asian Tour produces some excellent golfers. One of these could be 24-year old American, David Lipsky. After making it through Q-School, Lipsky recorded his maiden tour victory on only his third start in the Handa Faldo Cambodian Classic.
Recommend Bet: David Lipsky at 510.0

After several near misses, Danny Willet finally bagged his maiden tour victory in the BMW International. With the weight of expectation lifted from his shoulders hopefully, he can kick-on to bigger and better things. Effective on courses that require plenty of birdies, he should go well at Crans-sur-Sierre where the last three winning scores have averaged 20-under.
Recommend Bet: Danny Willett at 100.0
