Deutsche Bank Tips: Ryan Palmer
Ranked sixth for birdie average and usually puts together one good round per tournament, often the first. Opened with a 65 at The Barclays last week.
In the last ten years, the winning score of the Deutsche Bank Championship has averaged almost 18-under par; it is no surprise TPC Boston was the fourth easiest par-71 on tour last year.
To win the tournament you need to make plenty of birdies and that brings Ryan Palmer into play. The 36-year-old ranks sixth on tour for birdie average.
The Texan doesn’t have a particularly good record at this event but he did finish T11 in 2010 after shooting an opening round 64.
Interestingly, Palmer has a propensity to shoot blistering low opening rounds. He started with a 65 at The Barclays last week and his lowest round of the year was an opening 62 at Colonial.
Against a high quality field, Palmer probably isn’t good enough to win but if the putter gets hot then he could shoot one very low round. At 110/1 (Boylesports) he is a lively each-way bet to be first round leader.
