Phoenix Open Tips: Ryan Palmer
Finished second in 2006 and opened with a 64 last year. Arrives on the back of a T6 at the Humana.
Having erroneously tipped Ryan Palmer to win the Sony Open, I was almost punished the following week when he finished T6 at the Humana Challenge. Thankfully no damage was done, but it confirmed my suspicions that he is a golfer on the upgrade.
Ranked first on tour for driving distance and fifth for GIRs, it’s only a matter of time before the 36-year-old adds to his three PGA Tour victories. Having been runner up at TPC Scottsdale in 2006, this could be the week.
Having opened the tournament with a round of 64 last year, Palmer faded over the weekend but at odds of 66/1 (Paddy Power) he is worth chancing because at his best he is good enough to win. Back him each-way with ¼ odds for a top five finish.
