Crowne Plaza at Colonial Golf Tips: Zach Johnson

Zach Johnson

Record winner last year. Playing well and should put up a strong defence.

With a tournament record of 21-under par, Zach Johnson was magnificent when winning at Colonial last year. Only three bogeys ended up on his card through 72 holes for an week. Last year he arrived at the tournament on the back of a missed cut but still managed to end victorious. This year he arrives in much better shape and the 20/1 on a repeat win looks very fair.

A closing 66 at the Players Championship propelled Johnson up the leaderboard to a T12 finish. That was hot on the heels of a T6 finish at the Wells Fargo; this suggests his game is in good shape. His record at Colonial is also excellent, in his last five starts his record reads: 1-T9-T30-T26-T14.

The key to winning the tournament is putting and there are not many better than the 2007 Masters champion. Currently ranked 6th on tour for strokes gained through putting, he is always near the top when it comes to use of the flat stick. At a tournament where you need to make birdies he looks a great bet.
