British Open Tips: George Coetzee

George Coetzee

Two top three finishes in under a month. He is playing the golf of his life.

Last year the Open Championship was won by a relatively unknown South African and history could be about to repeat itself. George Coetzee turns 25 on Monday and what better birthday present than winning a major.

A rookie on tour, this big hitter is enjoying an excellent spell of form. In his last five tournaments he has finished: T11-T12-T3-T37-T3. The two top-five finishes came in the BMW International Open and the Scottish Open, both strong fields by European Tour standards.

His finish at Castle Stuart was most impressive. He closed with three birdies to sneak into a tie for third and gain an invite to the Open. If it wasn’t for that run, he’d be watching the event on TV.

He can consider anything he achieves in Kent a bonus. With the pressure off he could cause a few surprises at 300/1.

Totesport are best odds, offering ¼ odds for a top five finish.
