Ortiz Overpriced At New Event
Carlos Ortiz has missed his last four cuts but he played well on Friday at the Greenbrier and won three times on the Web.com Tour last season.
The Barbasol Championship is a new event for the PGA Tour and with most players taking a first look at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail it pays to proceed with caution.
At the start of the week I was happy to take a watching brief but the 125/1 (Bet365) about Carlos Ortiz was too good to resist.
The young Mexican arrives in Alabama on the back of four consecutive missed cuts but he’s been playing better than the bare results.
Having backed him at the Greenbrier, I followed his round quite closely and he has one of the best rounds of the day going on Friday until he stuck his tee shot in the water on the 16th.
We must not forget that Ortiz won three times on the Web.com Tour last year and that talent hasn’t deserted him.
With ¼ odds for a top-5 finish he is worth a small each-way investment.
