The Golf Outsider: Dunhill Links

Feast Of Links Golf

Don’t be fooled by the likes of Hugh Grant playing in the pro-am, this is a serious golfing event. The Outsider has found some great value in a competitive field.

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship will be played over three courses in Scotland this week – The Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns. The Pro-Am format means the courses are set-up in a less challenging way, giving the professionals plenty of birdie opportunities.

Alfred Dunhill Championship Selections

Sat 129th in the Race to Dubai, it’s been a pretty mediocre year for Steve Webster, but in recent weeks he’s hinted at a return to form. He finished T57 at the Italian Open throwing in a good round of 67 along the way; the previous week he opened with a 66 at the KLM Open. Last year he finished T18 at the Alfred Dunhill, opening with a blistering 29 on the front nine at St. Andrews.  If he can find another low round, he could put himself in contention.
Recommended Bet: Steve Webster at 610.0

It’s been a consistent year for Joost Luiten, making 16 out of 20 cuts on tour. He’s not threatened to win that often but that could change at the Dunhill Links Championship. Last year he finished T9, despite not being able to buy a putt for the first two days.
Recommended Bet: Joost Luiten at 180.0

With his playing rights in jeopardy, Gary Boyd produced the goods in Italy with a T5 finish. A Sunday round of 63 propelled him up the leaderboard, but so good was his play, it could have been a 59. Two years ago he finished 4th at this event and if his putter stays hot he could be in for another high finish.
Recommended Bet: Gary Boyd at 260.0
