Group C Betting Preview

In what may prove to the most open group, the bookies have decided that the South Americans deserve favouritism.

I’m not too sure the bookies know what to make of Group C which must mean there’s money to be made if you can solve the riddle before they do.

Colombia are evens (Skybet) to top the standings but they must now do so without their biggest star - the injured Radamel Falcao. But Jose Pekerman’s boys completed their preparations with a 3-0 victory over Jordan on Saturday to show they can score without him.

Ivory Coast are 7/2 (WilliamHill) to claim top spot and who knows what’s possible for the Elephants if Yaya Toure reproduces his Man City form and Didier Drogba roles back the years one more time.

But Japan cannot be discounted at 9/2 (Betfred) either. A 4-3 victory over Zambia at the weekend added to the suspicion that their will be goals at both ends when the Blue Samurai are on the pitch. At 7/2 (WilliamHill) they might be a shrewd bet to finish as the group’s top scorers if nothing else.

Greece are the outsiders (8/1 WilliamHill) and may prove to be the total opposite to Japan. Recent 0-0 draws with Portugal and Nigeria suggested where the team’s relative strengths and weaknesses lie.

To win Group C: Ivory Coast 7/2 with William Hill
