Who Impressed On Deadline Day

Crouch New Potter

It was a frantic day of dealing as the transfer window slammed shut. We look at the impact on the betting.

After the 8-2 humiliation at Old Trafford, Arsene Wenger was always likely to be one of the more busy managers. He brought in defenders Andre Santos and Per Mertesacker and both look good signings. Further upfield is where the debate rages. Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri have been replaced by Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun for a fraction of the cost. The Blue Square traders were impressed and cut them to 18/1 from 33/1. Victor Chandler were unmoved and remain best price 40/1 on the Gunners winning the Premier League.

Stoke were the other big spenders signing Spurs duo Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios. Coral make them 20/1 to be relegated, and on the drift, a sign they have spent well. Crouch should be a regular starter and with a good supply from Etherington and Pennant on the flanks, it is surprising to see him quoted at 200/1 to be the Premier League’s top scorer.

QPR are another team who busied themselves at the end of the transfer window. Signings of Joey Barton, Anton Ferdinand, Armand Traore, Shaun Wright-Philips and Luke Young are all of Premier League standard. Neil Warnock and his new recruits are 7/4 with Skybet to be relegated, on the drift from yesterday’s 11/10.
