Turkey v Hungary Tips: Hungary to win

Beat Turkey 3-1 in October and have lost only two of their last 11 matches.

Two teams following different trajectories meet in Istanbul on Tuesday night. Four years ago Turkey were ranked 11th in the world, 37 places above Hungary, now they are 13 places below their opponents.

The ‘Golden Generation’ that helped Turkey finish third in the 2002 World Cup and reach the semi-finals of Euro 2008 have now either retired or reached the twilight of their careers.

A 2-0 win over Andorra was their first in four games and only their second victory in five qualifiers, the other coming against Estonia.

Hungary on the other hand are a team on the up. They have risen 16 places in the world rankings since 2009 and sit second in Group D behind the Netherlands.

Since the start of 2012, Hungary have lost just two of their eleven games, a run that included a 3-1 victory over Turkey in Budapest.

A Hungary win is overpriced at 3/1 (Coral) in the draw no bet market; we can feel safe in the knowledge that if the visitors settle for a draw we get our money back.
