Tottenham v WBA Tip

The run of crazy Premier League results is surely due to come to an end soon and I just can’t see Tottenham missing out on three points against WBA at White Hart Lane. After taking 39 points from their last 16 games, scoring in 17 in a row, confidence must remain sky high in Redknapp’s squad.

The team news does nothing to dampen enthusiasm about the hosts. Ledley King and Aaron Lennon may both return, and even if Scott Parker fails to pass a late fitness test, this should be a fixture where Spurs can cope with his absence. On the other hand, the Baggies may be missing leading striker Shane Long and skipper Chris Brunt; they don’t have the depth to cope with that.

The problem is that the likelihood of a Tottenham win is fairly reflected by the odds - there is nothing better than 4/11 (Boylesports) out there. For better value I recommend instead a look at the first goalscorer market; at 13/2 (Bet365) Gareth Bale is a bigger price than four of team-mates, but I suggest just as likely to score, or perhaps even more so.

The Welsh star is still being put at odds representative of a left-winger. But Redknapp has really taken the shackles off the 22-year-old lately, allowing him to roam forward with even more abandon than before. He will now often be the most advanced Tottenham player on the pitch, particularly on the counter-attack. The reigning player-of-the-year grabbed two goals at Norwich last week, and viewers of that match will confirm that he could easily have had four to his name.

Bale already has seven league goals this campaign, just two fewer than Adebayor who is 7/2 (Skybet) to break the deadlock on Tuesday. He is only going to score more frequently with the freedom his manager is affording him. At 13/2 (Bet365) he looks great value to be first goalscorer against WBA.
