Tottenham v Maribor Tip

A striker with a point to prove is set to make his first start of the season.

With Tottenham nothing longer than 3/10 (WilliamHill) to take out their recent frustrations on Maribor it feels like a good time to pick out a goalscorer. The script appears to be written for unsettled Emmanuel Adebayor; the Togolese striker is set to make his first start of the season and he’s backable at evens (Bet365) in the anytime market.

Reports continue to circulate that the 28-year-old is unhappy with his current status behind Jermain Defoe in the pecking order at White Hart Lane. With AVB unwilling to change his formation to accommodate the pair in the same starting line-up, Adebayor is having to wait his turn. That time appears to have come with Defoe likely to be rested with Manchester City on Sunday in mind.

If the former Arsenal and Real Madrid forward goes out with something to prove on Thursday then the Slovenians could be in trouble. Adebayor scored 17 goals in 33 league appearances in 2011-12 and remains a class act, at least on the pitch.
