Tottenham Hotspur 2013-14 Preview

Spurs have been spending like they are in the Champions League or like they have sold Bale.

Best odds to finish top four: 11/5 (StanJames)
Last season: 5th

Reasons for hope:

As you may have read, Gareth Bale might be off, but he hasn’t gone yet. If he stays then the future looks brighter than ever at White Hart Lane with the club investing heavy where the likes of Arsenal and Man Utd have been all talk. Roberto Soldado (£26m from Valencia) is a vital signing as goals from strikers were lacking last term. Brazilian Paulinho (£17m from Corinthians) adds yet another midfield option for AVB.

Potential bet: Spurs to win the league 33/1 (Betfred).

Reasons to worry:

If Bale goes then the entire system of play will need to adapt as the whole team was increasingly built around the Welshman last season. Even with Soldado, Spurs will need to get more out of Adebayor who was one of the biggest disappointments in the division after signing permanently last summer.

Potential bet: Top Tottenham league goalscorer - Adebayor: 8/1 (Skybet)

Verdict:

If all the stars align, as crazy as it sounds, the Lilywhites could leapfrog from top four contenders to genuine title aspirants, given the unsettled circumstances in Manchester and at Chelsea.
