Jelavic: 6 goals in 4 matches.

Crunch time in the Premier League. European dreams and survival hopes hang by a thread.

The penultimate round of Premier League matches throws up the usual blend of teams needing points to fulfil their European aspirations while others scrap simply to stay in the top flight. I think that two of the latter, Bolton and QPR, as well as two of the former, Tottenham and Everton, should all win at best odds of 12/1 with BetVictor.

It’s easy to forget that David Moyes’ side do indeed have a shot of qualifying for the Europa League. A poisoned chalice to the very top sides, the continent’s secondary competition would be something to excite Everton fans starved of continental adventures for some time. But perhaps more significantly, a strong finish to the campaign should see the Toffees finish ahead of their arch-rivals; Liverpool are three points back with two games to go.

The form book could not be anymore in favour of the visitors when the Merseyside Blues head to Molineux. Wolves have lost their last nine on their own patch while Everton are unbeaten in seven league games, home and away. In the circumstances, odds of 3/4 on Terry Connor’s relegated side losing again look quite generous.

Next up I’m taking resurgent Tottenham to make it three wins on the bounce at Villa Park (10/11). Spurs have looked back to their early season best in comfortably seeing off Blackburn and Bolton in the past six days. Villa are on course for their worst ever points tally in the Premier League and Alex McLeish is under huge pressure. The hosts are winless in eight and may be perilously close to the trap door by Sunday evening.

That will certainly be the case if Bolton (21/20) and QPR (10/11) both take maximum points from their crucial final home games. Form-wise, admittedly, it looks dubious, but I’m putting faith in the power of desperation at the last-chance saloon.

The Trotters are in the relegation zone on goal difference but will surely see the visit of mid-table West Brom as an opportunity. There must be a reasonable chance that the Baggies players may be on a bit of a downer after learning unexpectedly that their highly regarded manager is leaving for England duty. Bolton have found victories in their hours of greatest need; Villa, Wolves, Blackburn and QPR have all been beaten since March. This game is even more important and requires the same outcome.

It’s essentially the same story at Loftus Road where QPR are currently ‘safe’ on goal difference. The major obstacle the Hoops face is that they travel to title-chasing Manchester City on the last day of the season. With that in mind they quite simply have to take three points off a Stoke side who continue to travel indifferently at best. Mark Hughes’s troops have won four on the bounce in front of their own fans; a repeat is both essential and probable.
