Stranger Things Have Happened...

Expect the unexpected in the Premier League. The odds are great if you can predict the upsets.

Anything can happen in the English Premier League. What are the odds on some of the recent madness repeating itself?

Last weekend witnessed one of the most exhilirating Premier League programmes of all time. Man Utd lost their unbeaten record to the very bottom team, Arsenal raced into a four goal lead and still didn’t win and there were a record 41 goals from Saturday’s eight matches alone. Proof, if ever it was needed, that sometimes even the most outrageous long odds punts can come off.

So who’s to say that lightning won’t strike twice? Wolves follow up their famous victory over the champions with a trip to the Emirates Stadium this time round. So have the bookies been swayed by that most unlikely of upsets? Not a bit of it. Arsenal are 2/9 on to win with Bet365 and Wolves are available at 14/1 with the same firm. But Mick McCarthy’s underdogs have beaten United, Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool this season. Forget lightning striking twice, electrical storms are commonplace when the big boys face Wolves!

What about Newcastle drawing 4-4 for a second Saturday in a row, whether they hand out a four goal head start or not? The market seems slightly wary of a freak re-occurrence with Totesport offering a measly 100/1 on a repeat scoreline away to Blackburn. PaddyPower provide the tease with 275/1 but compared to the 500/1 Skybet offer on Birmingham and Stoke ending 4-4 it still feels ungenerous.

Recently, perennial entertainers Blackpool always seem to score and lead before it all ends in tears. Within the last month they have led 1-0 at West Brom, 2-0 at home to Man Utd and 3-2 at Everton before losing the lot. Punters who fancy a slightly less extreme long odds punt may be interested in a bet on Blackpool to lead at half-time but lose at full-time against Villa. This is a 25/1 shot with Totesport.
