Spurs Favourites To Sign Barton
Joey Barton is told he can leave for free as Newcastle shorten in the relegation betting.
With one year left on his contract and relations with the board destroyed Joey Barton was told on Monday that he could leave Newcastle for free.
Commenting on his twitter feed, Barton said, “Somewhere in those high echelons of NUFC, they have decided, I am persona non grata.”
After an excellent season, the Newcastle midfielder shouldn’t be short of suitors despite his high wages. Tottenham are 9/4 favourites to sign Barton, with Arsenal close behind at 10/3. Sir Alex Ferguson will not be scared of hiring a player who has had trouble in the past and United are 4/1 with Victor Chandler.
Having seen Andy Carroll leave in January and club captain Kevin Nolan move to West Ham, the Toon Army are rightly concerned to lose another key player. Bookmakers concur, with Newcastle a best price 6/1 to be relegated having seen plenty of bets struck on Alan Pardew’s team to go down.
