Saturday Accumulator

QPR: On the Up

Opening day of the season always throws up its fair share of drama. We pick three to take 3 points at combined long odds.

In the first accumulator of the new season I’m going for QPR, Reading and Burnley to all get off to winning ways on their own turf. The treble is a best price of 13/1* with Ladbrokes.

First up I’m looking to QPR (evens) to carry on where they left off at the end of last season against Swansea. The Hoops stayed up due to their electrifying form at Loftus Road down the stretch and they have never lost at home to their Welsh visitors in 20 visits. Junior Hoilett could be a particularly fine signing for Mark Hughes. Meanwhile, Michael Laudrup faces a baptism of fire after replacing Brendon Rodgers, and without Joe Allen and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

I also think Reading (7/5) can make a dream return to the top flight against Stoke City. Brian McDermott’s charges galloped to promotion off the back of 15 wins in 17 matches between January and April. The Potters are far from formidable on their travels and were the division’s lowest scorers last term with just 36 goals in 38 games. They also won just one of their last 10 matches in 2011-12. The difference in form is stark.

Finally, I’m going for an early upset in the Championship when Bolton head to their local rivals Burnley (19/10) at Turf Moor. This Lancashire derby will have been eagerly anticipated all summer by the hosts and it’s arguably the last fixture the Trotters need to start life after relegation. A hot reception is in store for Owen Coyle who led the Clarets to the promised land only to jump ship shortly afterwards.

*Exact odds: 12.92/1
