Cole has stayed at Upton Park

Back three away teams to beat lower ranked opposition at great value long odds.

Backing West Brom, West Ham and Brighton to all win away against inferior opponents is a lucrative 22/1 shot with Ladbrokes.

In the top flight, WBA have steadied the ship after a difficult start with a fine 1-0 win at Norwich last weekend. That was Peter Odemwingie’s first start of the season and last year’s 15-goal striker grabbed the winner for the Baggies at Carrow Road. The feeling is that the Nigerian striker is liable to combine to great effect with Shane Long, and that partnership will trouble the likes of Swansea.

How the Welsh side would love to call upon even one prolific striker having failed to find the net in all four Premier League games so far. There have been credible performances against Arsenal, Sunderland and Wigan, but the lack of a win weighs heavily on Brendan Rodgers’ team. Roy Hodgson has turned the Midlands club into a mid-table prospect very quickly and a lofty league position will be acquired by winning at places like the Liberty Stadium.

In the Championship, Brighton are unbeaten with six wins and a draw taking them to the top of the table. It’s worth remembering that even the one game they didn’t win came after Kevin Phillips equalised for Blackpool in stoppage time. They are that close to having a 100% record. So we should be pretty interested to find the Seagulls at 5/2 to win any game right now. That’s what they are to beat Leicester who are highly regarded as the division’s big spenders.

The problem is, for all Sven’s investment, the results up to now have been nothing better than mediocre. The Foxes are someway off making the newly named King Power stadium a fortress. They have lost two out of three encounters there; Bristol City and Reading left with the spoils even though both currently inhabit the relegation zone. Yes, there was a better performance and result against Southampton, but that’s not enough to make Leicester justifiable favourites over Brighton.

Our next selection features West Ham to win a local derby that won’t be for the faint-hearted. Millwall have been tough on their own patch for some time but it’s been over a month since the Lions triumphed anywhere. The 3-0 defeat at Birmingham on Sunday was convincing and made it three games without a single goal for Kenny Jackett’s side.

In sharp contrast West Ham look like they can rip through defences at this level for fun. After a bad opening weekend, Sam Allardyce’s new side have been as good as anyone. They have scored four against Portsmouth, Forest and Watford all inside the last month. Two of those matches were away from Upton park so the New Den should hold no fears. A team averaging 2.5 goals per game should be expected to beat a side averaging 1.
