'Sack Race:' Latest Odds

The pressure is intensifying on two managers under-achieving at big clubs.

Two men are dominating the ‘next manager to leave’ market in the Premier League after both endured another troubling midweek.

Paul Lambert is nothing longer than 5/4 (StanJames) to get the boot after two cup exits to lower league opponents was followed by a home defeat to Newcastle. The beleagured Villa boss has now seen his side slip to an ominous 19th in the table. The 43-year-old was actually shorter in the odds a few days ago before Randy Lerner publicly backed his man.

Meanwhile, in the blue corner, we have Rafa Benitez at a best price of 9/4 (Ladbrokes) to be next through the exit door. The former Liverpool favourite was way out at 33/1 just over a week ago but a cup scare at Brentford brought fresh criticism at the weekend. Then on Wednesday night it just got worse. Chelsea blew a 2-0 lead at Reading wish they held until the 87th minute - the fans were not amused.

At the moment it would be regarded as a major shock if any other manager fell on his sword any time soon. Martin Jol (12/1 StanJames), Alan Pardew (33/1 StanJames) and, of course, Brian McDermott (33/1 Skybet) all had encouraging results in the latest round of matches.

However, Chris Hughton (50/1 Skybet) may be considered a little over-priced, particularly if Norwich’s run of seven league matches without a win continues much longer.
