Relegation Spotlight: Blackpool

Adam has been the star of the Blackpool survival efforts.

They have caused upsets, they have always entertained. But can the Seasiders survive?

Season Review:
Have had the time of their lives in the role of ultimate underdog. Holloway’s attacking approach saw the Seasiders stay out of the drop zone for almost the whole campaign. The flip side, shipping goals left right and centre, was always likely to catch up with them in the end. Still delighted to have hope going into the final day.

Season Highlight:
So many to choose from. Beat Liverpool home and away. Even led Man Utd 2-0 at Bloomfield Road before reality struck. The 4-3 win over Bolton just last weekend would be a highlight for any neutral, and could prove really significant if results go the way of the Tangerines on Sunday.

Season Lowlight:
Lost at home to West Ham and Wigan since the turn of the year. The 4-0 defeat at Molineux in February also looks catastrophic now in light of the point and goal difference in comparison to Wolves. Results against the other sides down there are the only reason why Blackpool aren’t safe already.

Survival Hopes:
Nobody gave them a prayer when they got promoted and the bookies still think a trip to Old Trafford will conclude their stay in the top flight. Unbeaten in four, Holloway’s side are another one to have rallied in recent weeks. Behind Birmingham by one goal, who are above the dotted line, just shows how tight the outcome should be.

Verdict:
It might come down to whether Blackpool can lose by less than Birmingham do. The danger with that scenario is that Wigan could overhaul both sides with just a point from their game. If the Tangerines lose, which is likely, relying on two other results to go their way looks doomed to failure.
