Relegation Betting Round Up

With only one team odds on to be relegated, the bookmakers have no idea who is going down.

Where do you start with the relegation betting market? With Sunderland in ninth, only six points above the drop zone it could be any three from twelve teams. It might be the case that the magic forty points barrier won’t be enough to guarantee safety.

At the start of the weekend Wigan looked doomed, the bookmakers made them 2/9 favourites for relegation. A stoppage time winner against Birmingham and it is not so clear cut. The bookmakers still have them as 2/5 favourites but there is hope again.

Blackpool were on the wrong end of a stoppage time equaliser against Blackburn but a point wasn’t a bad result according to totesport, who go 13/10 (from evens) on Holloway’s men being relegated. Bluesq weren’t so impressed and make them 10/11 shots.

The bookmakers can agree that it wasn’t a good weekend for Birmingham, now joint 7/4 third favourites (from 11/4) for relegation along with West Ham.

The result of the weekend was Wolves’ win at Aston Villa. Having been a short as evens for the drop, Mick McCarthy’s team are now 2/1 with Coral to be relegated.

Blackburn, West Brom and Aston Villa are all one point above the drop zone, with 11/5, 15/8 and 15/2 their respective odds to be relegated. The old cliché of ‘too good to go down’ is alive and well as far as Aston Villa and the bookmakers are concerned.
