Rangers v PSV Eindhoven

A big European night at Ibrox will never be easy for PSV. Rangers are underdogs with a fighting chance.

Rangers are the team that just can’t win the bookies over. They have been Europa League long shot for months and were expected to fall by the wayside in the previous round against Sporting Lisbon. A last minute winner for the Portuguese at Ibrox looked like a hammer blow but the Scottish champions showed their resolve by claiming a sensational 2-2 draw in the return, to progress on away goals.

In the Round of 16 they were pitted against PSV Eindhoven in what was billed as an even tougher task. Defying the doubters again, Walter Smith’s underdogs earned a fine 0-0 draw in Holland to leave the tie finely poised. But still the bookies are unconvinced. At 23/10 to win on the night, and therefore progress, I think the Scottish side deserve a vote of faith in them and the possible return of Steven Naismith could be a major boost. PSV are still enjoying favouritism at 7/5 to win at Ibrox, but I’ll back an upset.
