Time For Quique Could Be Shortlived

The ongoing absence of Deeney and the injury to Welbeck means Watford are still struggling for goals. 1 in 5 winless matches spells danger for the returning boss.

The Premier League’s ‘next manager to leave their post’ market is among the most volatile. Every time one of the under-fire managers loses, their price crashes, but equally a win gets them back on track. See Solskjaer for an obvious example at the moment.

In this context there is value in spotting a boss in potential peril before the hysteria kicks in. Easier said than done! But Quique Sanchez Flores certainly looks big at best odds of 33/1 with Paddy Power.

He’s already had two more games in charge this season than his predecessor Gracia, Watford remain winless in the Premier League, so the buck will stop with him soon enough.

Let’s start with credit where it’s due by acknowledging that Flores has avoided defeat in each of the last three outings. The trouble is that draws don’t get you far, especially when an 8-0 hammering is still relatively fresh in the mind of the fans and the board.

Let’s face it this isn’t a board renowned for its patience. Gracia did pretty well last season yet that didn’t even get him through August this term!

Upcoming fixtures have to deliver a few wins. The only home games before December are Chelsea and Burnley, both tough in different ways. Sheffield Utd and Bournemouth both recently came to Vicarage Road without losing, or even conceding. That could prove telling before long.
