New Era at Newcastle?
There's some hope around St James's Park again but it's incredibly fragile. The Saints enjoy these opponents.
They say that optimism has returned to St James’s Park after a summer of investment, at last, and with a new manager brought in. But this is Newcastle. The mood can change again very quickly.
Southampton had a stunning campaign last time round and frankly we should lap up the 7/4 (WilliamHill) on offer for the visitors here.
The Toon lost nine of their last 11 games under Jon Carver and the defence which contributed heavily to that debacle remains largely in place.
The Saints have won their last three showdowns with the Magpies by a combined 10-1 scoreline and the likes of Pelle and Mane can make hay again.
The Geordie wheels could come off again so even the 14/1 (Skybet) on Southampton winning by 3 or more might be worth considering. We’ll play it safe for now.
