Liverpool Outperforming Man Utd
It hasn't been fully realised in results yet, but the Merseysiders are ahead of their hosts on key metrics at both ends of the pitch. Can they make that count at Old Trafford?
I can’t help thinking Manchester United have been getting away with it lately and that Liverpool can prove they are in fact the better team by winning at best odds of 9/5 with BetFair.
The Red Devils were poor for half the games against Chelsea and Palace recently and trailed in both. Before that they lost their previous 2 away league games to Newcastle and Spurs. They are due to be punished again for failing to perform for 90 minutes.
Liverpool have been in great form where they haven’t had to recover from setbacks. The Merseysiders are far more prolific as a rule having scored 95 goals goals across top flight and Champions League compared to 68 for Man Utd.
Jose apologists will say that doesn’t matter because his side defend better. But how true is that more recently? United have conceded 6 goals in their last 5 league games compared to just 3 by Liverpool over the same period. They seemed to have improved with the addition of Van Dijk.
Interestingly, United only rank 8th for average number of shots conceded per game (11.7). Liverpool sit 2nd with 7.7.This shows how reliant Mourinho has been on De Gea and if Karius continues his recent upturn then it’s reasonable to think his side will finish higher.
