Premier League: Latest Relegation Odds

A good weekend for Blackburn

It's a familiar story with just seven points separating Villa in 9th from basement boys Wigan. Blackburn won 4-2 to move off the bottom.

With most of the top sides winning at the weekend the biggest movers in the division came at the other end. Blackburn Rovers are 4/5 (Skybet) to stay up after Yakubu scored all four in a vital home victory over Swansea City. The Ewood Park club are 11/10 (WilliamHill) for relegation after they leapfrogged Wigan and Bolton at the foot of the table. Steve Kean’s side are now just one point from safety.

Rovers are hot on the heels of Sunderland in 17th spot after they led before losing 2-1 at Wolves on Sunday afternoon. However, most of the bookies lengthened their odds on the Black Cats going down after Martin O’Neill was confirmed as the new boss at the Stadium of Light. The Mackems are 5/1 (Victorchandler) to be playing Championship football next season.

Things do look pretty grim at the DW Stadium though. Wigan are 2/5 (Ladbrokes) for the drop after collecting nine points from their opening 14 games. A 4-0 defeat to Arsenal was humbling enough; Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd are all still to come on the December fixture list. Despite all that, Roberto Martinez is lengthy at 12/1 (StanJames) to be the next manager out of a job.

Owen Coyle was 50/1 in that market back in August, but he’s nothing longer than 3/1 (Sportingbet) these days. After losing 11 of their 14 league encounters to date, Bolton could perhaps count themselves fortunate not be cut adrift at the bottom already. As it is, they are just above the Latics on goal difference and 6/4 (StanJames) shots for relegation.

The promoted sides continue to look capable of survival with none of them currently occupying the bottom six. Swansea are thought to be most threatened (9/5 Bet365), with Norwich (5/2 Bet365) and QPR (5/1 Coral) both pretty much mid-table.
